Ownership Turnover

Invisible business failure — ownership transfers by cuisine family. Pizza, Asian, and Deli cuisines show high non-closure turnover.

3,749 ownership transfer events matched to cuisine across 50 cuisine types. Pizza & Italian, Asian, and Mexican/Latin cuisines show the highest invisible turnover — same location, same signage, new LLC. Closure velocity counts DBPR status-45/46 license deactivations. Ownership transfers are invisible to closure velocity — the license continues under a new entity while the restaurant may look identical to consumers. Pizza/Italian restaurants have the highest non-QSR ownership turnover rate in Florida, followed by Asian cuisines (Sushi, Chinese, Japanese). For franchise QSR (Fast Food) turnover is expected; for independent pizza/sushi it often signals that the original operator could not sustain the business.
